The Bognár Family Hungarian Scholarship Fund Receives $25,000 Grant From The Sunshine Lady Foundation

Washington, DC – The Hungarian American Coalition (Coalition) has received a grant of $25,000 from the Sunshine Lady Foundation to support the Bognár Family Hungarian Scholarship Fund (BFHSF)’s mission.

BFHSF was established in 1999 by Dr. Béla and April Bognár to provide assistance to qualified Hungarian university students living and/or studying in Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, Serbia, and the United States.

Since its inception, the founders have raised more than $550,000 from members of the Hungarian American community, churches, organizations and foundations.

The Sunshine Lady Foundation (SLF), directed by Ms. Doris Buffett, sister of famed businessman and philanthropist Mr. Warren Buffett and daughter of businessman Mr. Howard Buffett, is one of the major supporters of the BFHSF.

For the 2014-2015 academic year, the Fund has given 39 scholarships to deserving students. The description of the application process is available at the Coalition’s website: www.hacusa.org/en/scholarships-internships/TBFHSF

BFHSF also supports students from the Sub-Carpathian region of Ukraine who continue to face enormous challenges, including in their opportunity to study, due to the ongoing crisis.  We encourage our members to donate to the BFHSF so that we are able to help more students in need in Sub-Carpathia.

Contributions to the Coalition are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
