Outstanding Students at Marosvásárhely’s Bolyai High School Receive Hungarian American Coalition Awards for the 7th Year

Washington, DC – On June 6, 2025, the “Hungarian American Coalition Award” was presented to this year’s three winners at the graduation ceremony of the Bolyai Farkas High School in Marosvásárhely (Tirgu Mures, Romania). Totaling $2,000, the awards were presented to seniors Csongor Barta-Zágoni, Zente Ádám Nagy, and 11th grader Anna-Mária Domokos.

The recipients were recognized for their outstanding academic achievement and community service. Students must apply for the award, and applications are evaluated by a faculty committee according to a rules-based point system.

The first prize for academic achievement, in the amount of $1,000, was awarded to Csongor Barta-Zágoni (who received the second prize as an 11th grader last year).
For years, he has dedicated himself to mathematics, consistently challenging his intellect through problem-solving, and reaching a level where he now creates problems for the prestigious International Hungarian Mathematics Competition. His accomplishments place him among the top Hungarian and Romanian students, bringing notable recognition to Bolyai Farkas High School. In addition to his mathematical prowess, Csongor has a strong interest in Hungarian language and literature. He also participated in a three-week Erasmus program in Spain, attended a ten-day international mathematics camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and took part in a study trip to Brussels.

Describing his hobbies, Csongor reported: “I played football competitively for six years, and now I play it as a hobby. In addition, I run and cycle regularly, and starting this summer, I also plan to take up tennis. To relax, I usually read; my favorite authors are Dezső Kosztolányi, István Örkény, and the French writer Guillaume Musso. I would like to continue my studies in Budapest, at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), majoring in mathematics.”

The second prize for $500 went to 11th grader Anna-Mária Domokos. Growing up in a bilingual and bicultural household—with a Romanian mother and Hungarian father—she became fluent in both languages and developed an open-minded perspective. This dual heritage is a natural part of her daily life. Anna-Mária is passionate about mathematics, reading, and listening to music, and has achieved notable results in mathematics competitions at regional, national, and international levels.

Senior Zente Ádám Nagy was awarded $500 in recognition of his outstanding community service. Over the past four years, he spearheaded numerous community-building activities with organizations such as the Bolyai Student Council and the Romanian Association of Hungarian High School Students, and demonstrated his commitment to teamwork, responsibility, and initiative.
