Washington, DC – Thirty-one students have been awarded Bognár Family Hungarian Scholarships (BFHSF) for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Four scholarship recipients are enrolled in the following Hungarian universities: Bernadett Birta, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest; Zsófia Dorgay, National University of Public Service, Budapest; Ákos Óbis and Genovéva Svingola, University of Debrecen.
Five scholarship recipients are studying at colleges in the Subcarpathian region of Ukraine: Norbert Bence, Vivien Bence, and Viktor Makusin, National University of Uzhhorod (Ungvár); Ingrid Lőrincz, National University of Uzhhorod (Ungvár) and Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education, Berehove (Beregszász); and József Orbán, Munkachevo State University, Munkachevo (Munkács).
Twenty-one scholarships were awarded to Hungarian students admitted to universities in the Transylvania region of Romania: Laura Béres, Orsolya Dani, Irma Tímea Császár, Kinga Jánó, Eszter Boróka Kiss, Norbert László and Tünde Renáta Székely, Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj Napoca (Kolozsvár); Tibor Laczkó, Sapientia – Hungarian University of Transylvania, Târgu Mureș (Marosvásárhely); Zsuzsanna Bajnoczki, Dóra Sarolta Bálint, Andrea Csíky, Ágota Fazakas, Mildred Beatrix Izsák, Noémi Szilvia Miklós, Ádám Pál-Jakab, Tamara Henrietta Ravasz, László Szabó, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Târgu Mureș (Marosvásárhely); Béla Olasz, Alba Iulia Roman Catholic Theological College and Seminary, Alba Iulia (Gyulafehérvár); Csilla Márton, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Nagyszeben); Levente Nagy, Technical University of Cluj Napoca (Kolozsvár); and Janka Simon, Gheorghe Dima Music Academy (Kolozsvár).
Finally, Tímea Palkovics, who studies at the Medical College of Applied Sciences in Zemun (Zimony), in the Vojvodina region of Serbia, was also awarded a scholarship.
The Hungarian Scholarship Fund (HSF) was established in 1999 by the late Dr. Béla and April Bognár to help outstanding Hungarian students finish their educations in their own countries or in the United States, and to remain or return to their home countries to provide leadership in their communities. Since its inception, the scholarship fund has awarded more than $700,000 to 268 Hungarian students in the US and the Carpathian Basin raised from members of the Hungarian American community; churches; organizations; the Sunshine Lady Foundation (SLF); and recently, by the Ambassadors of the Future.
Scholarship recipients must have an excellent academic record, outstanding recommendations from teachers, mentors, clergy or community leaders, and proven financial need.
