Washington, DC / Farmos – The Hungarian American Coalition (Coalition) is proud to announce that it has received a $200,000 grant from the Kilroy Foundation of Katy, Texas to support educational and infrastructure improvements at the Miklós Matolcsy Elementary School in Farmos through the “Egy Falu az Iskoláért” Foundation.
Miklós Matolcsy Elementary School
Farmos is a charming village in Pest County with a rich history dating back to ancient times, first mentioned in official records in 1420. The village has seen resilience through many historic trials and retains its vibrant community spirit today. The village takes pride in its notable wooden statue, a memorial to St. Urban (Szent Orbán) and the suffering kulaks. Crafted in 2015 by artist István Nyitrai, this sculpture stands as a tribute to both the saint and the perseverance of the local community.

The grant will fund key upgrades including asphalting the lower elementary school courtyard assembly area to improve safety and accessibility, renovating student washrooms with modern tiling and finishes, and installing drywall suspended ceilings with fresh paint to revitalize classrooms. Support will also be given to the school’s robotics club, promoting hands-on STEM learning among students.
