The Hungarian American Coalition proudly announces the successful completion of a transformative educational and community development initiative in Egyházasfalu, Hungary. Supported by a generous $200,000 grant from the Charles and Lisa Simonyi Fund for the Arts and Sciences, the project culminated in the renovation of the Károly Simonyi Primary School, now reopened as a modern center of learning.
The grant was distributed through the Foundation for the Simonyi Károly Elementary School and the Village’s Students, which has long supported the school and its mission to serve the youth of Egyházasfalu.

The official opening ceremony, held on August 23, 2025, welcomed distinguished guests including: Dr. István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Attila Barcza, Member of the Hungarian Parliament, Ádám Németh, Head of the Sopron District Office, János Marek, Regional Director, Sopron Educational District Center, Renáta Rösszer, Deputy Regional Director and Head of Finance, Miklós Major, benefactor and honorary citizen of Egyházasfalu, István Horváth, School Principal,Beáta Waszaritsné Torkos, Kindergarten Director, Members of the Simonyi family, including Coalition Treasurer Zsolt Szekeres, who represented the Coalition at the event.

The newly revitalized school honors the legacy of Károly Simonyi, a distinguished physicist and educator born in Egyházasfalu, and father of Charles Simonyi. The renovation marks a significant milestone in improving educational infrastructure and opportunities for rural communities in Hungary.
“This project reflects our enduring commitment to promoting Hungarian culture and education,” said Zsolt Szekeres. “We are proud to partner with organizations that create lasting impact for future generations.”
