Hungarian American Community Supports U.S.

Washington, DC – The Hungarian American community has reacted with shock and sadness to the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. We extend our sincere condolences to all the innocent victims and their families, and salute with admiration the bravery of the rescue workers. We join our fellow Americans in our nation’s deeply felt pride and unity, and in unqualified condemnation of the barbaric acts of terrorism.

We support the U.S.-led international effort, including the contributions of our NATO ally, Hungary, to combat terrorism and to bring the perpetrators, and those who support them, to justice.

To assist in this effort, we urge Hungarian Americans to support relief funds for the victims of terrorism by making a contribution to the Hungarian American Coalition – “September 11 Fund.”

Residents of Hungary may also contribute to the relief efforts through the Hungarian Human Rights Foundation, a Coalition member with offices in Budapest. (Budapest Bank, 1054 Budapest, Bathori u. 1. Account number: 10103173-40035323-00000006). Because the American Red Cross has been recognized for providing excellent assistance since September 11, the Coalition will send all funds collected to that charitable organization.

The Hungarian American Coalition is a nationwide non-profit organization that promotes public understanding and awareness of Hungarian American issues.
