Hungarian American Coalition Announces Recipients of Bognár Family Hungarian Scholarships for 2018-2019

Washington, DC – Thirty-seven students have been awarded Bognár Family Hungarian Scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Four scholarship recipients are enrolled in the following Hungarian universities: Orsolya Joó and Annamária Király, University of Debrecen; Bernadett Birta, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest; and Edit Dukai, University of Pécs.

Three scholarship recipients are studying at colleges in the Subcarpathian region of Ukraine: Ádám Daróci and István Pataki, National University of Uzhhorod (Ungvár); and Zsanett Tóth, Transcarpathian Hungarian College, Berehove (Beregszász).

Twenty-eight scholarships were awarded to Hungarian students admitted to universities in the Transylvania region of Romania: Irma Tímea Császár and Mária Izabella Szövérfi, Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj Napoca (Kolozsvár); András Szabolcs Barabási, Andrea Edina Fábián, Laura Éva Fazakas, Andrea Izsák, Krisztina Kapás, Orsolya Kapás, Katalin Kövecsi, Tünde Mária Laczkó, Norbert László, Roland Nagy and Csenge Apollónia Pál, Sapientia – Hungarian University of Transylvania, Târgu Mureș (Marosvásárhely); Dóra Sarolta Bálint, Andrea Csíky, Ágota Fazakas, Lóránd Hegyi, Mildred Beatrix Izsák, Tünde Jánó, Emese Csenge Kiss, Dóra Krányák, Tihamér Máté, Eszter Antónia Orbán, Nóra Pap, Tamara Henrietta Ravasz and László Szabó, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Târgu Mureș (Marosvásárhely); Béla Olasz, Alba Iulia Roman Catholic Theological College and Seminary, Alba Iulia (Gyulafehérvár); and Noémi Izsák, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Sibiu (Nagyszeben).

Finally, Dániel Csíkos and Mária Palkovics, who study at the University of Novi Sad, Novi Sad (Újvidék), in the Vojvodina region of Serbia, were also awarded a scholarship.

The Hungarian Scholarship Fund (HSF) was established in 1999 by Dr. Béla and April Bognár to help outstanding Hungarian students finish their educations in their own countries or in the United States, and to remain or return to their home countries to provide leadership in their communities. Since its inception, the scholarship fund has awarded more than $700,000 to 239 Hungarian students in the US and the Carpathian Basin raised from members of the Hungarian American community; churches; organizations; the Sunshine Lady Foundation (SLF), directed by Mrs. Doris Buffett; and recently, by the Ambassadors of the Future.

Scholarship recipients must have an excellent academic record, outstanding recommendations from teachers, mentors, clergy or community leaders, and proven financial need.
